Akwa Ibom state corper makes a suggestion for the Federal Government of Nigeria

I salute everyone.

I know i don’t hold any portfolio in the Nigeria government but clearly looking at it, I do; because of democracy which states that it is a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” So this gives me a position in government.

I wish our Mr President consider this suggestion and gives it a concern.

What’s my candid suggestion?!?

Going down the memory lane….

The NYSC scheme was created in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war. The unfortunate antecedents in our national

history gave impetus to the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps by decree No. 24 of 22nd May 1973 which stated that the NYSC is being established “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”.

Okay! Why all these hype?!? Unity over the years has been an understatement. It’s has been the issue over the years in our beloved country, my Nigeria, your Nigeria, Our Nigeria. This unity cannot be achieved even though one million Nigerian graduates are mobilise to serve. Unity must begin with our leaders. Take a view in the situations occurring, the violence, bombings, killings, all because of power and supremacy. Is it worth destroying unity?

Leaders think about themselves, what about they over 300,000 Nigerian graduates that are being mobilise for NYSC scheme annually, what becomes of them after the clarion service? They will return back home jobless, financially incapacitated?

My candid suggestion of this article is, let’s the Corps members be oriented in camp for about 3 weeks and sent out for community development service be it health care, agro and allied, legal aid Etc. As a service to their nation for 5 weeks. All together 2 months of clarion service. Then, the monthly allowances they are being paid in total for 12 months be given to them as an empowerment under monitoring to start small and medium enterprises (SMEs). With this, unemployment will die…..

If only this article will be considered.

My candid suggestion. I so submit.

Yours sincerely,

Franklyn Akam
